Cloth Diapering

Stupid question

I lurk more than post and I see a lot of you posting about liners. This confuses me. Where does the liner go? For example I have pockets and pre folds and 1 AIO so where does it go? I know the pockets are stuffed with inserts, that I get but the liner thing is throwing me for a loop. TIA!

Re: Stupid question

  • Liners go between baby and diaper.  I made fleece liners to use with my natural fiber diapers so that DS doesn't feel as wet.  They can also be helpful in dealing with poop.  You can get disposable and flushable liners too.

And they wash just like everything else?

  • There are several types of liners.

Disposable liners are used in any diaper once you start solids.  Instead of spraying or dunking.  You just drop the liner in the toilet and flush.

Fleece liners are used with prefolds or flats most of the time.  They give the baby a stay-dry feel.  Some babies don't like to feel damp.

They can also be used for diaper creams that are not cloth diaper safe.  This allows you to wash the feece liners separately so that the diaper cream doesn't effect the absorbancy of the inserts and pockets.

I'm sure I'm missing a couple of other liners, but these are some of the most common ones.

Yep!  I just throw the fleece ones in the wash with everything else.

If you are using liners because you are using a cream that isn't CD safe, then you will want to wash them separately (like with a load of towels) but otherwise they just go in the same laundry.
