I used Bummis Super Whisper Wraps (which I liked because I could just tuck the prefold into the flap and skip the snappi) and Thirsties Duos (which are good because they last a long time).

Our DD was 7lbs 11oz and the thirsty duos wrap was too big at birth. It fit around 8.5 lbs though to about 13lbs. It was suppose to last longer but for some reason didn't with us. DD had a long torso. Anyway, I second the bummis super whisperer wrap, I think xs. That's the one with double gussets right?
I loved using the Proraps Classic newborn size. I used them with trifolded prefolds and never once had a leak or blowout. I have heard good things about Bummis but never tried them.
Or baby was 7 lbs. 12 ounces. We used GMD's Newborn prefolds with Thirsties x-small covers and Bummis Super Brites size small. Both worked well. I highly recommend buying covers with leg gussets. The Bummis Super Whisper Wraps don't have them, so they'd always leak on us.

We have 2 rumparooz newborn covers and 2 thirsties duos size 1. Knock on wood, but so far no leaks with either one. I am a fan of the double leg gussets, although our GMD fitteds have yet to allow anything on the cover.
ETA: DD was 7 lb 8oz at birth and both fit her just fine.
