Update: Ear infections

DS is on his third ear infection in three months! For those of you who's LO's had tubes put in, how many ear infections were your LO's getting when your Drs decided to go with tubes?

Update:
Apparently DS doesn't even have an ear infection after all! But he does have pneumonia! Doh!

The pedi would allow 5 ear infections in 1 year before they would refer to an ENT. The ENT would allow for 8 ear infections in 1 year or if the fluid in the ears never dried up between infections before putting tubes in. If you aren't seeing an ENT, I would take LO to one instead of going to the pedi. Our ENT also did hearing tests on DS to ensure that we still had to wait until the 8th ear infection mark.

P.S. If the infections keep coming, a trip to the allergist might also be helpful.

Our Pedi did 6 in 6 months as the rule. When we went to the ENT we found out he had fluid that was never going away and had hearing loss. I suggest you go early and get his hearing checked! We are so happy we did the tubes. He was honestly only gone from us for 15 minutes and has been so much happier and healthier. GL

Thank you all! Sounds like I need to be proactive and ask for an ENT referral. We have seen an allergist and he is allergic to milk protein and eggs. I think that may have contributed to the first two ear infections. They wouldn't go away even with antibiotics. But that was before we knew about the milk allergy.
Let's hope I get this figured out!
