Do you lock up your stroller?

Ok, so this may be a stupid question, but I was out with my mom this weekend and I showed her the stroller we want. It is really expensive ($500.00), but it's the one we want and we have been saving up for it since we found out we were pregnant. With that said, I was out with a friend of mine this week and we went to the Rainforest Cafe in the mall and you can't bring the stroller in there. They  just have this pen outside where everyone leaves their strollers. She had the double BOB stroller which I know is a lot too and I asked if she was just going to leave it and she said yes. It totally had me stressed out! If you have an expensive stroller do you lock it up? We go to NYC a lot to visit my husbands family and we eat out all the time. No stroller would ever fit in the small resteraunts we go to there, but I would feel really nervous about leaving it out on the street while we are inside eating. What do you think? They do sell stroller locks, but I don't want to be psycho about it.

  • I've heard of people using bike locks for them. Probably not a terrible idea. I'd be nervous to leave a bob outside too!

  • I don't, but really the only places I ever leave it are mall-type areas with a million other strollers, most of which were more expensive than mine.  I've never had a problem. Depending on what stroller you are looking at, you could consider just getting a cheaper umbrella-type stroller to take to the city when you go.  You want something small and easy to maneuver if you're on city streets anyway.

  • I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving any of my belongings in public unattended. As for going to restaurants, I wouldn't bring the stroller. Either carry LO in the infant carrier from the car to the restaurant or wear the baby in a carrier.

  • I hate leaving it, but sometimes we have to. We have year passes to Sea World and the aquarium, and there are places you can't bring it.

  • I have a bike lock for my BOB but I don't lock up my moderately expensive umbrella stroller. I usually just fold it up. Lots of people think I am paranoid. I am ok with that.

  • Ok thanks ladies!! We are getting the Baby Jogger City Select and after reading your comments I will get a lock for it and won't feel paranoid about it! Definitely won't use one for our umbrella stroller which is much less expensive and smaller.  Big Smile

  • BRU has a stroller lock. It's a cable type lock that you loop through the tires.
  • I'm a FTM but I wouldn't consider *not* locking up my stroller. I always lock my bike. Our stroller will probably cost more than my bike!
  • Wow, really great post...

We just got the Bugaboo Donkey for our twins, and that thing is expensive!!! I didn't even think about this, and while I'd probably avoid taking it to places where I couldn't bring it, a lock just to have isn't a bad idea.  Thanks!

  • We do have a stroller lock. It's a cute little pink pig that you program with a 3 digit combo to unlock. We have an expensive stroller and knew that if we were going to make a big investment in the stroller that we wanted to lock it when necessary. We travel to Disney World with frequency and always lock it when we are there. We never lock it to anything (like you would a bicycle). We lock the front wheel to the rear wheel, so that you can't push it. In Disney you can't lock your stroller to a fixed point, they have to be able to move them around to best utilize stroller parking space. They can roll ours this way with the wheels locked, but it makes it very difficult.

On a general basis, we do not lock it. We lock the pig (lock) to the frame, so that we always have it if we need it.
