19 mo still on bottles.

DS was doing well with sippys during the day ms just a bottle at night. A few weeks ago he started regressing. He only wants bottles now. Any one else in the situation it have advice? He uses the bottles to fall asleep too.

  • Honestly, since you know he can do a sippy well, I'd just pack up his bottles. Out of sight, out of mind. It might be a tough day or two, but he'll be over it in no time.

  • Take the bottles away. He will drink if he is thirsty. Just be consistent with offering the sippy. It took DD a couple of weeks before drinking milk from sippy cups, so be patient.

  • I know I do not have much experience in this, but my doctor just mentioned it @ dd's 12 mo appt.  She said it will feel like you're being a mean mommy, but just take the bottles  away & only offer sippy cups, just like PPs suggested.  She said that LOs are too smart to not drink @ least a little, & while it may be a couple days, soon your LO will drink from the sippy without issue.  I am waiting a few more weeks until my DD is done transitioning to WCM but plan to try it then.  Good luck!

  • Try different types of sippy's. Maybe LO no longer like the kind you have?

  • Friend had suggested we keep them around the house for him to see. He played with them a few days pretending to drink they were empty. Today I said do you want moony to fill with water or milk when he picked one up and he said milk. He drank it right up. Later he said baba and I said do you want milk and he said milk. He whined when he said the sippy but eventually drank some. Then he refused. He was in his high chair later coloring so I just put it next to him and he drank it up. Hopefully this continues.

  • They will not dehydrate or starve themselves on purpose. Their bodies force them to eat and drink. So take the bottles away and move on. :)
