In the last few years, my school throws a big fundraiser shindig for all the faculty and parents. Every year, I've declined to go and was pretty good about coming up with a good reason.

The chair person for the fundraiser (a parent volunteer) will often send emails to get everybody interested in going, with tons of follow up emails, etc. She would not stop with the emails and said that it looks bad that I have never attended the shindig since its inception. She stated that other faculty members with young children are getting sitters and maybe I can do the same. I must have declined at least 3 emails and today was the last straw.

I finally wrote an email explaining that the first year of said shindig was the EDD of DD#1. So excuse me if I wasn't exactly in the partying mood that year since I was supposed to be giving birth and ended up mourning the loss of my daughter. 

Each year, the shindig is around the same time so it is just another reminder that my daughter is not here. While everybody is having a fun night out without their kids, I will be at home missing the daughter that I will never get to hold. Sorry if I'm not jumping at the chance to leave the daughter that I have spent years praying for.

Her response, "I'm sorry, maybe next year." Really?!

I don't go to my school's fundraisers and I no longer volunteer for anything unless I am asked and begged. She has no right to say those things to you and that whole next year comment deserves a throat punch or three.

I hate that crap. I do try to go to some things that are important to my students talent show, science fair but that's it. I work hard all week and am often made to feel unappreciated at times. There are so many other events like parents night and conferences where I stay late so I cut out as much as I can. Family and personal time is important. She sounds like a real peach, so selfish and inconsiderate. hugs

1) She's a an idiot that will never get it. 2)  I would reply to her email and tell her "No, not next year either - or the year after that.  I will never be attending this event.  Thank you for your understanding."  3)  I'm sorry you have to deal with this uncomprehending boob.
