He had a bad cold around 6mos that ended him up on antibiotics, but this is already way worse.
His fever is between 102-103.. even with motrin and tylenol, I'm lucky to get it below 100. His cough is atrocious. And, he's constantly wheezing. The only time he doesn't sound incredibly wheezy is after he's had a coughing fit.
I'm terrified to leave him alone.. I'm an asthmatic.. and I know how quickly a bad cold with wheezing can turn into struggling to breathe.. now, I know that's because I have asthma.. but I just get so scared for him.. what if his wheezing from his cough suddenly turned into him having difficulty breathing??
I absolutely hate this. This scares me so much.
Re: DS is so sick :(
Poor little guy! And of course it's a weekend. Does your pedi have someone on call?
This sounds a bit like when my DS had croup a month ago, though his fever never got up that high. The only thing that helped his wheezing was to run a really hot shower and sit in the steamy bathroom with him. We did that for a couple of nights every time he woke up, and it would soothe his wheezing enough that he could sleep for another hour. On the other hand, with your LO's fever so high, maybe warm steam isn't the best thing...but it is so terrible to listen to that wheezing!
Our pedi did say that if it ever seemed like he was struggling to breathe, we should take him straight to the ER.
I hope your pedi has some good suggestions and your LO is feeling better really soon. Big hugs to you too.
And I thought I had it tough with my little guy being sick for so long - at least my DS hasn't had any fevers (knock on wood!).
When my middle brother got sick with a respiratory illness (this was twelve years ago, so I can't remember what it was), but he was a baby still, and the cough sounded like a rattling in his chest
He had this big box next to him, blowing vaporizer in his face to recuperate (sounds like a nebulizer treatment to me, now that I think of it). But yeah, vapors/steam for coughs sound like the all-cure treatment for nasty coughs to me!
I'd definitely call the urgent care/pedi line or something though if it's it concerning to you ~ better safe than sorry! Hope you get some answers soon, and that he feels better

It is so hard when they are sick at that age. I know you are doing everything you can to help him feel better. Hopefully the nebulizer treatment will help with his breathing.
The pedi wrote us a script for a nebulizer after DD got RSV at 14 weeks. Whenever she starts wheezing, we give him a call and he'll tell us to try the nebulizer and see if it helps. It has been a life saver on those late Friday nights.
