Stripping Towels (Not adoption Related)

Happy Saturday/March everyone. Last week I determined our towels stink (not from lack of washing). After some googling I found that it might help to wash them adding 1/2 cup of vinegar and then a second time with 1/2 cup of baking soda, then promptly dry to strip them of old detergent and soap build up.

Has anyone tried this with good results?

  • I've done it. You need to was on hot. I didn't notice a huge difference, but my towels weren't awful to start. But really, it can't hurt to try

  • I just did a hot wash with blue Dawn on my kitchen towels last night/this morning to see if it helps their absorbency. They're in the dryer right now, so I don't know how well it worked yet. Definitely worth a try!

Well it worked to remove the musky smell the towels were holding which was good. They seem cleaner but I don't notice any huge difference in texture or fluff as I was hoping. Overall, I'm satisfied but it was a bit of a longer process (two wash cycles then a dry cycle).

    Thanks for the input!!
