Questions for working moms

Long story short, I am going back to work Monday after 4 months of not working and I am feeling worried and kind of sad about not being with DD anymore.

So I guess I am wondering what other working moms find beneficial about working, for yourself and your families. Other than money.

Re: Questions for working moms

  • I like getting out of the house and having my adult time.  I have always worked outside the home so I am used to it and feel productive when I do.  For me personally, I think working makes me a better mom.  I have time for myself with a sense of accomplishment during the day.  I miss my kids and can't wait to see them at the end of the day.  I almost need that 'break' to not go crazy.  I love my kids and my family but I enjoy 'me time' as well.  So, I guess I find it beneficial for my emotional well being.

  • Since I work 12 hour shifts, DH does the transportation to and from the babysitter.  I really like how he's grasped her routine, and they can have time just the two of them when they get home before DD goes to bed.  DH has always done bedtime routine, but now he does a whole lot more, including packing her bottles and food for the sitter.

  • I love what I do so It would have been really hard for me to just stop doing it. Adult time is nice. And also I think being in daycare has been really good for my daughter. She has been going since she was 8 weeks old and at first it was really hard, but she is growing up to be such a social, outgoing girl and I know she loves to be around the other children at daycare.

I also think that working allows me to be a better mom. I think I would go insane if I stayed home.

  • Thank you for your replies!

I am happy DD will be going to daycare, I know it is good for her and she enjoys being around other children.

And I do go crazy being home, it is not my dream to be home. I'm sure me getting back to work will put our whole family back into a better situation :)

  • It will be really and I mean really hard to leave for the first few weeks, but after that it gets easier and you begin to feel like a member of society again.  For me, while I loved the 24/7 time with DS,  I needed adult conversation and interaction.   If you have a great daycare or sitter, you will find your baby will be so happy to see you when you get there to pick them up.  And once you get into a routine, the time you spend at home will be the best time ever.  Don't stress about making dinner or cleaning house, spend that time with that beautiful baby.
