Bummer Sleep Blues

DS is 8.5 months old.  He refuses to sleep in his crib and will only sleep in his swing.  He slept in his swing when he was really little due to acid reflux, but now.. he is too big for his swing.  I am running out of time and I'm starting to panic.  I've been trying the CIO method, but now DS stands in his crib and he cannot get himself back down.  Last night, I watched him from his monitor (I have a video monitor) - I watched him stand and scream for 10 minutes.  At that point, I went in and laid him back down .. told him it was ok and rubbed his back and walked out.  Same thing - and this went on and on for over an hour and I had to go to sleep.  Also, when I went in, my son had been crying so hard that he was snotty and tears were everywhere.

I just don't think I'm cut out for the CYI method.  I don't know it..I want to use it.. but my son looked miserable and it makes me feel really guilty.. like I'm emotionally hurting him.

What can I do?  I tried putting him in my bed (I know, not good.) but luckily, my son won't sleep in my bed.  In fact, he will not sleep anywhere at all other than his swing.
