How to Lose a Binky in 10 Days

Ive discovered that many of LO's seemingly endless night wakings are due to losing her binky and freaking out. Anyone have success weaning off the binky at night so she learns to self soothe without it? Im imagining a lot of crying :/

  • Does she suck her thumb? If my DD doesn't have a paci she just sucks her thumb.

  • Is LO swaddled still?

I thought DD still needed her swaddle but about 2 weeks ago I gave up and let her have her hands at night. Since then she has slept great, and seems to use her hands to soothe herself once the paci falls out.

  • no thumb sucking and no swaddle. she shoves her fingers in her mouth sometimes but is never content until she gets the binky. Maybe I just need to go wtihout it and endure the rough nights until adjustment happens.

  • It is totally your call if you get ride of the paci or not but for what it's worth...

DD1 did the same thing your DD did and it was awful. But then one glourious day she figured out how to find it and put it back in herself.

DD2 will not take one and I so badly wish she would.

It can provide such comfort for things like long car rides. I miss the paci!
  • We're going through the same thing right now. They cry for their paci in the middle of the night, we get up and give it too them and they're quiet for another hour of so. It's getting exhausting!!!! My DD has. Started self soothing (finally) with sucking her thumb. My DS is slowing starting too as well. I'm too scared to let o e CIO cause they'll wake up the other!!! Goo Luck. The pacifier game sucks.

  • IM actually thinking of making my own wubbanub type plush animal attached to the binky in hopes that she could more easily find the binky and put it in that way. IT might be wishful thinking!

  • We quit paci cold turkey at 4 mos. Getting him to sleep at bedtime was hard (a lot of crying) but once he was asleep he stayed that way. It took about 2 nights for him to get used to not having it around and he learned to self soothe. A month later he still doesn't use it. If he wakes during the middle of the night and it isn't time to eat he will whine a bit and then fall back asleep. It will wake me up but at least I don't have to get out of bed.
