  • Oh and to me it screams girl as many, many unisex names do, hence the reason they are now girl names!!!!

Which is exactly what can be said for saying that Alison grew out of Alice.  I don't understand why the origin of that one is seemingly correct but the origin on the one I pointed out potentially isn't.  As I'm sure you've noticed, many comments here have pointed out that names ending in "-son" mean "son of." No one had an issue with the veracity of those comments, yet when I point out a traditional girl's name ending in "son" with the same origin I'm the one who needs to do more research?

And I prefer logic that actually makes sense....but that's just me.

...because the the site that I talked about in the pp actually gives accurate information and is rather in-depth when it comes to etymology.

You of course should name your child whatever you choose. However, I think you simply need to realize that others don't always share your opinions...or...logic.

Maybe I missed it. Where is the site that you mentioned in a previous post? I don't see a reference to anything in particular, just your suggestion to do more research.

Note: It also states Emerson is unisex. But, everything else on BehindTheName is right.....just not that. :p

Not to mention that it is ranked higher as a girl's name than as a boy's name as well!

There's a difference between etymology and usage.  Emerson could be the #1 name for girls and its origins would still be as a boy name.  I believe that was what you were discussing re:Alison.

My comment here had nothing to do with etymology nor with the discussion of Alison. Mummyofsix pointed out that the site shows it as a unisex name, and I furthered that by commenting on the overall ranking.

So...now we've stopped talking about the thing you brought up?

No continue to talk about whatever you like. As I previously mentioned and apparently need to again, I was simply commenting on something another poster stated. Didn't realize that was an issue.

This. I'm not sure what is so difficult about it.

Regardless, OP...not everyone is going to like it. I think that is something you just have to accept.

  • LOVE it! This is our number one as well except a different middle name. I think your combo flows well and Rae is very cute with it.

The name has been posted by myself and a few others recently and most on this board seem to associate it with a boy. Some say the ending "son" specifically is for a boy. So, does that mean the name Allison is a boys name? No.

We are still going with it and love it. It is a name used on both genders today and I think it's great. If you and your DH do too, use it!

Edit: just read through the whole thread and see all if the above was brought up. Some like it, some don't. That's the same with any name male or female. The important thing is you like it.
  • A friend of mine just named her girl Emersyn Rose. I think its pretty.
