XP- New Here

My Ryry is 10 months old.  Since birth he has had bloody mucosy diahrea.  I mentioned it to his peds since day one and they had pretty much done nothing.  Thankfully we have a new ped who has taken our concerns serious and started to look into things.  Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, we hit the er twice in one weekend.  The first trip was for large amounts of blood.  That trip basically ended with blood work and a referral for a GI.  Less than 48 hours we were back for sever vomiting and come to find out severe dehydration.  That trip ended in him being admitted for 4 days.  He was on iv fluids and antibiotics for most of the 4 days.  We were discharged last Thursday with an appointment for the GI for this past Tuesday.  His platelets and inflamitory markers were elevated.  We attempted Nutragemin (sp?), Elecare and Elecare JR Vanilla, none of which he would drink so they put him back on Prosobee until our appointment.  When the Dr walked in the room at the appointment he immediately said he was not doing well.  Ryry now weighted less than he did in November (at 7 month).  We were immediately admitted on a feeding tube and as of right now that's where we still are.  They are planning on scoping him and doing biopsies in the next week or 2. The current plan is to send him home on the tube (with Elecare Jr Vanilla) tomorrow.  He is not allowed any dairy, eggs or soy until they can scope him to confirm the suspected dx of Chronic Allergic Colitis, they are also looking into some sort of auto immune disease (I have an auto immune disease).  Whoa this is the first time I have actually really thought about all of this.  If you made it this far...thank you.

Anyone have advice on foods??  They want us to introduce more table foods

Re: XP- New Here

  • I'm so sorry. That's tough! hope they figure out what it is soon.

My son is allergic to milk/soy/eggs/peanuts/tree nuts and our house is completely safe for him so I cook and bake daily without any of these ingredients for the entire family.  Took a while to wrap my head around it but now it's a piece of "allergy free" cake :)

I have a pantry tab on my allergy blog, which has milk/soy/egg/nut free products.

I suggest going to  whole foods or any health food and just looking at their products.

We live on sweet potato pancakes, tyson chicken nuggets, ians french fries, pasta, risotto, homemade cheeseless pizza, Quinoa with steamed apples and cinnamon, guacamole, homemade calzone, toast with butter/jelly/sunbutter.

Here is a list of some healthy fats (took it from my recent post). We try to add them to my son's diet, but it's nearly impossible b/c he's 3 and is a super picky eater, but your 10 month old will think these foods are amazing. My 14 month old loves all of these (except for hummus). Get him use to eating these healthy fatty foods now and he'll love the taste later on.

Coconut butter / oil - I add it to bread, pasta, smoothies

Avocado - Plain or guacamole style.

Hummus - easy to make your own

Seeds - Seeds also have amazing fats! flax seeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds.

Olive Oil - You can add it to pretty much anything

  • Courtney!   Hi!   You have three kids now!   Wow!

I'm sorry your son is going through this ... I don't have many words of advice because my girls both outgrew their MSPI around a year old ... but I hope you are able to get him feeling better soon.   What GI are you seeing?   We saw Dr. Biller who is based out of Mass General but has office hours every Monday at SNHMC.   He is phenomenal.   Anyway, if you want to chat more I'd love to catch up ... hope you're well!

  • Hey Kirsten I didnt know you had a second:)  lol  We see Dr. Sharshidar out of NH Hospital for Children (ie Elliot).  I like him but I really like his NP she's awesome.  The practice in general so far has been great they have been right on top of everything.  We will see them weekly for a bit.  Otherwise we are doing well.  Same old same old at the grand old Crowne...lol
