More importantly, people in general think negatively on things they don't understand. It's a common defense mechanism. I've lived with it my entire life, and have learned that once they understand more, they tend to be less negative about it.

I may never be able to go back there again. First, it has been shown that if a child knows a second (or more languages) that they tend to be better in academics. Their cognitive capabilities expand as does their language. More freaking importantly, this "A child has no need for math. That doesn't mean they shouldn't know how to add 2+2" is unforgiveable.
