Merlin Magic Sleepsuit

Has anyone tried this to transition from the swaddle? We swaddle my 13 week DD and I hate all those swaddle sacks! I have tried halo, swaddle me, miracle, regular blanket and they all ride up in the middle of the night when she fights the sack and end up near her nose.  I told my DH I'm going to burn every swaddle sack when we're done with them lol!

So wondering if anyone has had success with this magic suit?

Re: Merlin Magic Sleepsuit

  • I used it for my son starting at about 3 months for a transition out of the swaddle because he was breaking out of the swaddle and waking himself up a lot. It was definitely a good transition out of the swaddle, but it didn't make him magically make him sleep through the night which I foolishly thought it would do. The suit allowed him to moves his arms, but not so quickly as to startle himself awake.
He is 5 and a half months now and I recently stopped using it though because he started to roll and was getting frustrated while sleeping in the suit that he couldn't roll over.
A week before he stopped using the sleep suit we sleep trained using the sleep easy solution and now he sleeps from 7pm to 6 am straight in just a blanket sleeper.

  • We had the same experience as PP- it helped us get rid of swaddling, but didn't magically make her sleep better.  It pretty much just kept it the same, which was great that it didn't get worse...that is until we hit the wakeful hell we're in now.

I think it was kind of pricey, but she always seems warm and cozy in it which is nice.  My DD hated to be swaddled so I was glad to be rid of them.

  • I've never heard of the Merlin Magic Sleepsuit. DD still loves to be snug when she is sleeping.  We bought a Woombie for her and she loves it.  its a little sack you put them in that zips up from the bottom.  has a dual zipper also so if you need to change a diaper, their arms are still snug.  Its a stretchy material so she is snug as a bug in it and she loves it.  They make several sizes, right now DD is int he 14-19 lb size.  I already bought the 20-25 lb size so we can be ready when she grows into it!

  • My daughter would sleep from 7-6 waking only once to nurse when she  was swaddled but at three months she started rolling even when in the swaddle so we stopped.  it was hell.  she still had the startle reflex and was up all.night.long.  Finally someone suggested the magic sleepsuit.  She still startles in it but its less pronounced (not so spastic) so she falls right back asleep.  She now sleeps from 7-6 waking twice to nurse so although its not as good as the swaddle, its better than everything else we tried (halo sleep sack, swaddle with one arm out/both arms out, car seat, even tummy sleeping ...gasp!)  nothing worked.  this did for us and totally think its worth it.
