XPHuman pacifier

Any suggestions on how to break this habit? We've tried using a paci, he usually won't take it. He wants to comfort suck at the breast all day. It's the one thing that soothes him everytimethe 5 S's work only sometimes. I've been okay with it, although it is frustrating at times having to sit all day long. I'm worried though about when he starts daycare in a few weeks if he's going to be miserable. Or will it just work itself out when the time comes? Anyone gone through something similar?

Re: XPHuman pacifier

  • Well, pacifiers are artificial breasts. It is completely normal for a baby to want to comfort suck, particularly around their growth spurts. If you aren't there, they will learn other ways of self-soothing eventually, like pacifiers, thumbs, etc.

  • Eloise uses me as a pacifier & hates the artificial one we have. I just let her, in the past week though she's been finding her hand & trying to figure out how to suck her thumb.
  • How old is your LO?  Mine is 3 months old, she used me for a paci until I went back to work at 10 weeks.  Since then she has been just fine during the day with caregivers giving her a paci.  However she comfort sucks/nurses now almost nonstop from 6pm-10:30 or so at night.  I guess she is making up for lost time.

  • DS was the exact same way. He just now started actually taking the pacifier and it's not very consistent but getting better. When he does take it, he falls asleep faster and harder. I know people don't normally WANT their babys on pacifiers, but after nursing for hours at a time, I was pretty desperate for him to take it.

Agreed. She started taking one around 4 weeks and it has been amazing!
