My son, Paxton, was born on Friday, Nov 7, 2008! ?I had been having contractions on and off all last week and had my 38 week drs appt on Thursday where I was 1-2 cm dialated and 40% effaced so she stripped my membranes, or tried to, it was incredibly uncomfortable and painful and I freaked out a little. ?Then she told me to go home and do an enema as that would clear up the birth canal and make him drop lower and I might go into labor, so I did the enema. ?I was having contractions and they kept getting closer and closer together. ?We started timing them around midnight, they were 4 minutes apart one minute in length. ?Once that went on for an hour we called our doula who came over and then we labored at home until the contractions were 3 minutes apart for a little while and then called the dr and headed for the hospital around 4 am. ?When we got there, they checked me and I was 3 cm dialated and 80% effaced and was in labor. ?I only got a little bit of the pain medicine stadol I think around 6 cm, no epidural. ?The pain medicine made me a little loopy, DH said at one point I asked what I was doing there!?!?!? ?Pretty crazy! ?But it was great b/c I would have a contraction, it still hurt, but then would fall asleep right after it. ?Then wake up again for the next contraction. ?Then they suggested I get in the shower and run hot water on me to help me relax so I got in the shower and DH sprayed me all over with hot water for a little while. ?My dr said the pain med and the shower helped speed along the dialation since it helped to relax me. ?At 9 am I complained that it felt like I had to poop and the nurse checked and I was fully dialated so we started pushing! It took 2 hours and was the hardest workout EVER, but was less painful than I thought it was going to be...At 11:12 am I did the last big push and my son was born! ?He weighed 6 lbs 13 ozs and was 20.5 inches long. ?He got a 9-9 on his apgars and is just perfect! ?BFing is going ok, but we are having an issue with jaundice. ?We have been back to the hospital every day since discharge on Sunday so they can draw his blood and check his levels. ?They were still levated yesterday, but we haven't had to bring him back to be put under the lights which is good. ?We have our first drs appt with him tomorrow, so hopefully all will be ok and we won't have to bring him back to the hospital...wish us luck! Thanks for reading this and thanks to all you ladies on this board. ?Even though I don't post a lot, I am a frequent lurker and knowing I am not the only one going thru some of this stuff throughout pregnancy has been a god send, so thanks once again! ?I'll post pics soon!?
