CRAVING SALT

I am literally craving salt. Not salty food but salt. I have a container of margarita salt and have been eating a few pieces to try to help. Anyone else??

Re: CRAVING SALT

  • Yup me too. Chips, Chinese food, mr. Noodle, I ate a whole tomato covered in salt this morning. I try not to eat too much sodium but I drink so much water it can't be that bad right?

  • I crave salty foods... but I cant see myself just eating salt by itself. Ha-ha.  But salt is always on my mind.

Last night I devoured a whole bag of salt & vinegar chips and my mouth just started watering as I typed that out.

    Mmmm... salty goodness.

  • I don't crave salt but I do crave salty foods. I am thinking about making ramen when I get home.

  • Same...salty, savory foods. Also weird for me because last time it was sweets and boy could I pack it away.

Not to worry you, but if you continue to crave actual table salt I'd mention it to your MW/OB.

  • Pica? I agree that eating straight salt is a really good reason to call your OB. Its common to have unusual craving of minerals during pregnancy, but I'm not sure its a good thing to actually eat them. I've read some women have cravings for dirt!

  • Lurking from September...
I had this last pregnancy often and a couple times this pregnancy, though not as bad. Last time I was so sick and was lacking nutrients from vomiting so much. I asked my OB and he said I likely needed the minerals and thus the craving. It subsided after my MS went away and I was able to keep food and my PNV down. I would recommend letting your OB know, and this sounds weird, but if you're going to eat straight salt, get some good sea salt rather than table salt. Table salt has no iodine or minerals, and sea salt has lots of trace minerals, which is likely what your body is craving. I'm no doc though so take my advice with... a grain of salt. Haha

  • I agree. Normally I don't use or add salt to flavor things nor did I crave salty food. Now all I want is salty food. I am actually sucking the salt off of pretzels rods as I type this! I am only 12w 3 d but I am convinced I have a little boy!
