Chiropractor to Induce Labor?

Has anyone ever gone to a chiropractor to help induce labor? Have you had any success with it? I went to my regular appointment today and jokingly said, ?Hey, if there?s anything you can do to jump start this labor that would be great!? My chiro said, ?okay? and off he went doing a couple of different adjustments.

  • Interesting - I have no experience with chiros. How far along are you?

  • I'm 38 weeks. I've been seeing this chiropractor since I was like 10 years old though.

  • I had that too, with my first. He (a webster chiro) did an adjustment that he doesn't do unless you're 38w. He pressed more firmly on one of my uterine ligaments.  I felt really crappy the rest of the day and sore, and at 6am the next day, my water broke. I was 38w3d, but I think I might have been a week farther along that whole pregnancy, so 39ish.

I don't think it'll do a thing unless your body is ready, just like other natural methods. I'd certainly pursue this again though if I was facing induction otherwise. I go to the chiro regularly in pregnancy anyway to help with pelvic pain.

  • I have not had personal experience but that makes sense to me.  You have to go for special prenatal massages where they skip certain pressure points which could induce labor so why couldn't a chiropractor.  I am sure that it isn't guaranteed to work but I guess it could.

  • Interesting.. I was thinking if I got close to my DD going to get a pedi and have them not avoid the spots that could make me go into labor but maybe I'll keep a chiro in mind if it works. I have been wanting to go get adjusted anyway but have never been to one.

  • Ha! While mine would never profess to being the cause of my labour, I had seen him a couple days before my water broke. He even told me as I left that he had a feeling he would be seeing me with a baby the next time he saw me. I had laughed in his face because I was 37 weeks with my first expecting to be over due. And I had lots of hip issues so I thought I would be seeing him at least two more times before I popped. He was right. It could have been him, or the dirty chicken I ate a few days before...

  • Well, it's been about a day and I'm not in labor yet! Wish I was!

Bummer! You can at least take comfort in the fact that getting that chiropractic care will likely help you to labor more efficiently since your pelvis is lined up well!
