There's a blood test out there materniti21 that will tell you the sex as well as if your child has Downs or some other disorders. It's expensive and insurance usually doesn't cover it. Also, there's the nub theory for gender prediction for the 12 week ultrasound that can be pretty accurate. My tech said that she couldn't tell based on our nub this morning 8 more weeks of uncertainty!
yep or Verifi is the other brand of the test. Usually for those over the age of 35 or with a history of other issues that cause their Dr to recommend the test. It tests for sex chromosome disorders along with all the others downs etc. My insurance does cover it but only because I will be over the age of 35 when this baby is born and my Dr did request it. It is a brand new test.
Im more confused about gals who are having their glucose tests this early....seems like a lot of people are doing that early too. But I have no idea the reason for that. Interested to find out.

My doc did the 1 hour glucose on me early because I am overweight, which puts me at greater risk for gestational diabetes. All came back good, though, which is obviously wonderful news! :-)
Oh ok that makes sense I guess. Glad you are all good! I wonder if they do the glucose test if you have had GD in a prior pregnancy as well. Interesting...
I think there also must be a lot of us that are on this board that are over the age of 35 since a lot of women are getting this test.

I have PCOS so the doctor is having me do a glucose test next week at 10w6d and one at the regular time (unless I fail this one I guess). PCOS has a higher risk of gestational diabetes.
Thank you both! I was sitting here scrathing my head on this one. I am high risk due to ivf so I get a sono every visit...maybe next tuesday I can ask about the nub? I will be 14 weeks 1 day. It would be fun to know early
I was not aware of the early glucose test either. Nasty stuff! Not looking forward to that. I remember the fruit punch from # 1 and wanting to throw up. I held it in

I'm scheduled for my elective OOP gender US at 15w5d. Groupon had an amazing deal! The package comes with 4D pics, but I'm not really sure that seeing 4D pics at that stage would be anything like how he/she will actually look... I think I'll decline those!
At 13 and a half weeks you can pay like 40 bucks for a 4d gender ultrasound. I know I want to :
Never heard of that. I paid for a 3D u/s at 17 weeks because I wanted to know the sex prior to xmas so I could announce to my family. That clinic wouldn't see me any earlier then 16 weeks...or at least they didn't recommend it. And it was $100 not $40....so I guess thats a pretty good deal if it is accurate.
They shouldn't do the GD test until after the placenta is formed. I had GD last time and was borderline the time before. I'm trying to get my test moved up to around 15 weeks.
The u/s tech told me it was looking pretty strongly like one gender over the other at my NT scan today. I didn't even realize you could take a guess at this point.

I had a GD test at 8 weeks do to high risk factors and to rule out pre-existing diabeties. I will have another one at 24 weeks which is the usual recommended time. They screen GD for just about every pregnant woman now, it's quickly becoming the standard of practice.
