TTC #2 and letdown sensation

Hi guys,

Hoping you can entertain a strange question:

My son is 2 1/2 - I breastfed him until around 18 months. Since the time I stopped breastfeeding him, I have not once had any tingling or letdown sensation. We are now TTC #2. I am about 11 or 12 dpo and among a bunch of other weirdness, I've been experiencing (for the first time since I ended breastfeeding) a letdown sensation. The first time it happened was when my son was crying yesterday, and it has also happened a few times since (just spontaneously).

I did have a chemical pregnancy last month and I noticed that on the day I got my period (which was just a few days late), my nipples had leaked some colostrum. I suspect I may be pregnant again this cycle, but I have no idea (everything has been all over the place since we've been TTC and I've had two chemicals).

For those of you who have gone on to have another child, did any of you experience this partial letdown sensation during early pregnancy after you had discontinued breastfeeding your other child? So far, my pregnancy tests have been negative but it is kind of early.  I had a big dip in my chart the other day and since then, my temps have gone up really high again. But, given my experience with chemical pregnancies these past few months, I'm reluctant to get too excited even if I am pregnant.

Re: TTC #2 and letdown sensation

  • Yep I did. I stopped BF'ing DS when he was 10 months. Our first month TTC #2 I kept getting the let down sensation starting about a week before my period was due. I took a test and it was negative. Totally knew I was pregnant...I just felt off. Waited til the day my period was due and got a BFP. GL!

  • Phew - so I may not be going completely crazy. Thanks for chiming in. I guess time will tell. Hoping for the best.
  • As an update (for anyone searching on this issue) - I was not pregnant. My RE ordered a prolactin check, and that was normal. I suspect this may have been in relation to the chemical pregnancy I had the month before, but we're not sure (the RE was very confused as to why this would happen given normal prolactin levels).
