Update on me (pregnancy/ticker warning)

I just wanted to pop in (I'm still lurking and cheering on my cycle buddies especially, and all you ladies in general) and give a quick update to those that might be interested.

I'll be 15 weeks on Friday, and LO is doing just fine, continuing to measure a little bit ahead, just like DD did.  I had my NT scan around 12 weeks, and the MTM said everything looked great, I just had a partial previa, but that it usually goes away on its own, so she put me on pelvic rest until my next visit at 18 weeks.  My OB said he was surprised she mentioned it since it is so common in 1st tri and usually resolves itself, so I'm not going to worry about it unless it sticks around.

The big news is that I got my Mat21 results back yesterday, and the baby is negative for all 3 trisomies, which was great news.  I wasn't going to read the results since it had the sex on there, and I wanted to wait until Sunday (my 40th bday) to find out, but darn it, they didn't seal the envelope like they said they would, so I lasted all of a minute before "just looking at the trisomy info," before seeing something about Y chromosome testing and then totally losing all resolve and looking at the result.

So, we are having, drum roll please...a boy!  DH and I were both kind of hoping for a girl for several reasons, but I always used to say I wanted a girl first, then a boy, so I guess I knew what I was talking about.  Either that, or it's a case of be careful what you ask for!  Stick out tongue

So, we're taking a little time to wrap our heads around the news.  I think we're both just a little scared of the prospect of the unknown with a boy, now that we have DD pretty much figured out.  I honestly felt similarly when I found out she was a girl (thought I wanted a boy last time), so I know everything will be just fine!

In a departure from my first pregnancy, I've finally gathered the courage to add a shiny new pregnancy ticker to my profile.  I never felt comfortable enough to do it until well after DD was born, but I'm determined not to let IF take the fun of being pregnant from me this time around (well, not any longer, anyway).

Like I said, I'm still around, checking in on everyone's progress, and wishing you all the best on your upcoming cycles.  Thanks for your love and support during mine and right now.

  • Congratulations! How exciting! I'm so happy for you.

DH is convinced that if we get pregnant again it will be a boy this time around too. Only because both himself and his dad were #2 with older sisters. Lol! Like its hereditary.

No u/s tomorrow for me, my grandmom passed away and I have been with my mom all week and I am bumping from our hotel that we just checked into today. DS is taking a nap and i am taking it easy for a bit.

Finally winding down from a busy, yet highly productive day to respond.  We've started talking names, and have absolutely nothing we like!  Last name is Smith, so I want something classic, yet not so common like the last name.  Could also go with something more unique/less common, but don't want anything too out there.  DD is Lauren, so you can get an idea of what we're looking for with that (only came up with that because it's a combination of my and DH's names that was a real name).

As for the bloodwork, you can do the traditional quad screen labs that go with the NT Scan and give you odds, but the MaterniT21 test give you a yes/no for three trisomies with 99% certainty, and also tells you the sex.  You can do the labs as early as 10 weeks, and pretty much as late as you want in your pregnancy.  My MFM did those labs with my NT Scan this time, last time I did the ones that tell you the odds.  It's only about 2 years old, so insurance doesn't cover much, if any of it, but I called the company, and the said they won't charge more than $235 OOP right now (they are trying to get their stats up so insurance will eventually cover it and make it a standard test).

So sorry about your grandmother, what a tough loss at any time, but especially now.  I hope everything goes as well as can be expected, and it's so great that you can be there for your mom right now.  I'm looking forward to hearing about your next u/s once you get to reschedule though!

I'll have to tap you and the other boy moms for advice as I venture to this uncharted territory!  Here's your smile for the day: how funny will it be if you have a girl this time, so we both end up switching?  LOL

  • Thanks for all the kind words, ladies!  I'm glad there's lots of you with boys over here.  I'm going to need all the help I can get with this one.  The one thing I've picked up from the boards over the past year is to point his pecker facing down in the diaper.

That's about the extent of my boy knowledge.  I'm totally screwed, LOL!

  • Yeah for negatives and a boy! I had said I wanted a sister for my dd and figuring his LO would most likely be my last...but I LOVE that we had a boy(we were team green so I had to wait until the end to find out)...I always heard there is a special connection with moms& their sons and it is so true! (Although I promise I'll cut the cord when he finds a wife...lol).

lots of T&Ps for the rest of your pregnancy being smooth!
