Bloody nose

DS woke up this morning with dried blood on his nose and all over his cribsheet. We run the humidifier every night in his room and I can't imagine he would have hit his head or else we would have heard him crying.

Has anyone else experienced this? I plan to give the pedi a call when they open.

Re: Bloody nose

  • I'm not trying to scare you but I have a heart condition and used to get frequent nose bleeds and my pedi cardiologist told my mom they were a sign.

It could be from being inside in dry heat during the day or him rubbing it frequently and pressing on it or an allergy. There are a lot of things that cause nosebleeds.

  • Thanks Lopes.

I spoke to a nurse at the pedi's office this morning and she didn't seem too concerned.  She was still convinced it was the dryness, but we don't have a wood stove and we have steam heat.  Anyway - she said to put vaseline on the inside of his nose with a q-tip a couple times a day and let them know if it happens again. It's just a little scary when your child wakes up with blood all over the sheets.  Below are the pics.

  • This is how we found DD on Christmas morning. We were staying with DH's parents, DD started crying when she woke up and when I walked into her room, her face, sheets and crib were covered with blood. Terrifying.

In our case, it was a one time thing, caused by dry air. I hope it turns out to be the same for you.
