New car with enough space

I'm not sure what the best board for this question is, so I apologize if this isn't a good board for it, and please let me know which one is!

H and I will be buying a new (probably just new to us) car soon, and we'll need to fit 2 boosters and a RF infant car seat in it. We want to get a sedan, not an SUV or a minivan. Since you guys have/will be having multiples, Im assuming you are fitting multiple car seats in your vehicles, and was wondering if you have any recommendations for which cars have wide enough back seats for this.

Re: New car with enough space

  • First of all, minivans are the bomb for multiple kids.  May not be the most stylish, but incredibly functional. :-)

In terms of sedans, we have a 2003 or 2004 Avalon which we bought several years ago in part because we could get two car seats plus an infant seat in the backseat.  It's a great car and fun to drive.

Also, carseat.org has a lot of great info.  Here's a thread about 3 carseats across: https://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=33226

  • I can fit all of those carseats in my Nissan Murano.

  • Based on the (little) car seat research I've done, they make carseats narrow enough to sit three across in almost any car.

We're having triplets and just bought a CR-V last year that I"m REALLY hoping to keep (for now...) so we're looking at the Diono Radians & Combi Coccoro....still trying to find something with a BASE that can still fit three across....

    Good luck and Congratulations!

  • I wasn't huge on minivans for price reasons and fuel efficiency reasons, but I was super happy to find the Mazda 5 which I bought gently used just before the boys were born. It's significantly smaller than a regular mini van, but has a third row of seats that folds up or down. The third row is really tight, but would be just fine for a toddler/child.
