j.d.gal, this is for you, too.
I have the Action Baby Carrier Toddler size and my son likes having his arms out instead of in. The back is still a bit high for him to do this (he is only 17 months and 50% height) so ncbelle recommended putting the strap around my waist instead of hips and that would shorten the back when he is in it. I tried it this weekend and it worked like a charm. K liked this a lot better and it was just as comfortable for me as the other way, so it's a win-win all around.
Thanks to j.d.gal for asking the original question and to ncbelle for the extra advice!
