I haven't posted on these boards in forever, and wasn't quite sure the right place to ask this question. Basically for 3 1/2 years straight I have been pregnant, nursing, nursing while pregnant (up to middle of second trimester), then nursing again...with no breaks.
My question is has anyone noticed major changes in existing moles or freckles during their pregnancy and/or nursing, that concerned your dermatologist? I had a freckle looking mole on my fourth toe since as long as I could remember. Then it changed color slightly from pale brown to dark spots, still flat. My derm really freaked me out but then said I could wait to have it removed til I was done nursing. I of course wanted to be proactive, so last week I had the procedure and now I am limping around and waiting for the results.
I have no family history of skin cancer, I am caucasian and dark hair/dark eyes/medium skin tone.
My derm suggested that one possible cause for the change in the mole is the hormonal fluctuations in my system since 2009...does this make sense?
Re: Nursing hormones and mole changes
I have several moles that I watch carefully, but I didn't notice any changes during pregnancy. However, hormones definitely do have an effect on skin, and may have caused the changes. I think you did the right thing getting it removed. I was 30 when I had a mole removed and it turned out to be basal cell skin cancer. Removal was the only treatment necessary. FX that all is well and you have been limping around for nothing!
