BF Question

Hi ladies,

My LO is 8 days old today. It feels as though she  wants to feed all the time at the breast. Almost every hour. Does this seem normal or am I alone? I am a FTM and have no idea what to do. Thanks for any advice.

Re: BF Question

  • "Feed on demand" is what I kept reading and everyone said. Yes, it will get better.

  • She is just doing her part at making sure you keep producing more of the good stuff! Make sure you are taking her to her wellness/new baby pediatrician appointments, that will tell you if she is growing well. Also, drink plenty of water to help your milk supply. I feed on-demand and have a very happy baby. Give her what she wants and needs. You'll feel like you are just a food supplier at times, but it will get better and easier as you get more milk and get to know your baby. It's a learning curve for you and her. You are doing just fine mama!

  • Completely normal. I know it's rough but hang in there. You are doing an amazing thing for your LO. There have been days where ice barely gotten off the couch to use the bathroom because DS was just attached to my boob all day. It does get better. Just keep nursing on demand to help build your supply.

  • It's normal. We're still not on any kind of regular feeding schedule and DS is 3 weeks old. I feel like he's constantly nursing.
  • At that young of an age, I think it's normal.  DD is 6 weeks old and we are now starting to put her on a schedule based on EASY (Google it... it works!!)

  • Totally normal! Maybe it's a growth spurt, or maybe LO is just making sure your milk production is up to par. Look at KellyMom.com for some more info, and talk to a La Leche League leader for more reassurance, but it's completely fine. DD is 12 weeks now and she still does it sometimes. All I can tell you is just "go with the flow", pun intended! Feed her as much as she wants because that way your milk production will be well-regulated.
