I wanted to take some time "off" of teaching to prepare for LO and our big move into our own house. I quit teaching in December and have since been working in a tea room on Saturdays and substitute teaching about 3 days a week.
My SO told me this morning that he would like me to take my "maternity leave" now because I must not realize how pregnant I really am. I feel fine but decided to not work any more Saturdays at the tea room after this past one and I would really hate to go into labor while subbing.
Anyway, JW when you ladies are going on maternity leave? I kind of just figured I would keep working until he is born...

So many brave women on here! I can't imagine working up until I deliver. My due date is 3/9, and I'm working my last day on Friday. In a way, I'm kind of already on leave because I'm actually taking vacation all this week except for Friday, and then I'm only coming in to work on some projects that I have started so that I don't have to have too many reassigned before I officially go out.
I completely admire you ladies who are planning to work right up until you deliver. I'm too much of a wimp to even think of going that far. I've been so uncomfortable at work and I work 10 hour days at a call center. While not the worst job you can have, it definitely has its moments of high stress that my hormones have not helpd me with! Also, I just would rather not deal with the stress of knowing I could actually go into labor at any time, and that time could be while I'm on the phone with a customer. It's not like I can exactly say, "Excuse me, sir. Can you forget about your broken refrigerator for a minute while I time these contractions?" or, "I'm sorry I can't send this e-mail to the manufacturer for you. My water just broke and have to GO!" haha

I am working right up until my due date, or I go into labor, whichever comes first. With no. 1, I worked on my due date, and he was born 8 days later. Sitting around the house for a week was torture. I just have this feeling that this little guy will be another late baby, too, although my husband is convinced he will be early/on time.
Recent studies have shown that working the last month of pregnancy can negatively effect birth weight significantly. So, if you don't feel like working the last few weeks, it certainly won't hurt either you or the baby and will likely help both.
Here is an article that summarizes recent findings. The actual white paper is available on JSTOR if interested.
