Is it pronounced muh-LAY-nuh or muh-LEE-nuh? I think the first pronounciation is quite pretty.  The first thing I though of when I saw it was the IUD Mirena, though.

with this spelling, I thought of Mirena.  I love the name.  It makes me think of the movie from the 80's The Shag.  She spelled it Melaina.   Love it!

Another vote for makes me think of the IUD. Unfortunately that's likely to be around for a long while, unlike many pop culture references.

This is the true Italian pronunciation, and I have always heard it pronounced like this. I think it's pretty.

This. Also I went to school with a girl named "melena" (unfortunate, I know.). She pronounced it Mel-En-Ah (double unfortunate).

unfortunately this, while it has a pretty sound, I can't get this association out of my mind. I'm also in the medical field so that's probably why.
