Probiotics

Do you give them to your baby?  I give them to my 4 year old once a day and just learned recently that people give them to their babies too..I never did with DD1 but didn't really know much about them.  Thanks!

Re: Probiotics

  • My ped just told us to get these for our six week old for gas problems and fussiness, no idea if they work but we start them tomorrow

  • Where do you get them?

  • We started them about 4 days ago per our Pediatrician's recommendation.  We use BioGaia.  They are drops that are given once daily.  We bought our's at Walgreens and I think you can order them online as well.  Be prepared for a hefty price tag though.

So far, DS2 has been much less fussy and his poop is more regular now and he doesn't seem to be in as much pain from gas.  We're believers!

  • Never heard of it for babies. I'd ask your pedi.

  • Yes. My pedi said they can help and there is no harm. I bought a powder and mix it with 1oz of BM and give it to her once a day.
  • Thanks so much ladies!! I will definitely be giving them to DD2 as I think they are really good for everyone to take..I currently do while pregnant too.  I give them to DD for just a healthy digestive system and immune system.  I'm going to look into the Bio Gaia..right now I either use Culturelle for kids or Nature's Way Primadophilus powder and you can use that for infants too.

  • We use Udo's Choice for Infants and mix it in with formula once a day. Haven't seen a huge change in his level of gas or fussiness, but he definitely doesn't seem as pained by passing gas and pooping now.

If you can find them, I suggest getting probiotics that are refrigerated. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like you get better quality and "live" cultures when they stay refrigerated. I want to say the ones we got were under $20 and will last us a while.

  • Do probiotics pass through my breastmilk? We're not experiencing any intense gas, so I'd like to avoid anything manufactured, if possible.

  • I am thinking about trying these out to help my LO with gas and fussiness!
