Two Under 2

Another Car Post

I know I've read posts before on what the best cars are for 2u2 but I can't find them now and never really paid much attention to them since we were set before.

Now we've decided to give in and become a minivan family. Our girls will be 3.5 and 1.5 when their baby sister is born in May... so all three will be in their Diono seats but only DD#3 will be rear facing. We also have physical custody of my 14 year old cousin 90% of the time if not more.

The only feature we pretty set on is having an entertainment system for long trips... what other features should we be looking for? What van is best bang for the buck?

Right now we're in an older Suburban and are only looking to upgrade for the gas mileage and better dependability for me to have all 4 kids alone.

ETA: Okay we went to the car lot and tried out a Chrysler Town and Country but just weren't feeling it... but I did find something that's a little older that I like a lot better... A 2006 Ford Freestyle Limited.

So... how do I protect the leather??? The bad part of it is the fact that the interior is tan. I'm also trying to decide the best seat options for car seats. I'm thinking of putting the three littles in the middle row and the big one will need to climb back there if DH is home or going with us. Or I could put one of the kids in the 3rd row... but which one?? DD1 is able to buckle herself, but is prone to carsickness and is a better helper for binkies and such for DD3 but then I'm stuck climbing back to put DD2 in her seat in the back... Any Ideas???

  • We are planing on buying the town and country mini van with the touring package! it has compartments in the floor that are very nice in size and a nice deep and larger trunk.  but what sold me was the safty features i was in a very bad accident 5 years ago and when the cop got there he said he couldn't believe we made it out with out any harm as bad as the other car looked as well as ours.

  • I have a 2012 Honda Odyssey , I love it. The automatic sliding doors and truck are great, and I love all of the safety features. We have the dvd system but haven't really used it yet because we just turned DS1 FF. You can even add a second dvd player and split the screen to watch two different movies at once.

It's very comfortable even for adult in the back seat, my FIL has some major back issues (he broke it a few years ago) and said next to his BMW, our van was the most comfortable he's been a car in years. I know that all three second row seats have the LATCH, but it would be pretty tight for three carseats. When LO #3 arrives in June we're going to move DS1 to the back row maybe DS2 as well, and remove the middle seat on the second to make getting back there easier.

We got the seat covers to prevent the carseats from damaging the leather (my sister who has the 2010 model recommended this). And we also got all season floor mats, so cleaning up messes is a breeze.

I honestly have nothing negative to say about it!

  • Our cars (Yukon and Cadillac DTS), work well for us, but we only have 2.  The Yukon is probably similar to your suburban and will seat 4 carseats, but I'm sure youve realized, unless you have an XL, the cargo space is limited.  As far as minivans...I recently looked at the new Chrysler Town& Country and I was so surprised how nice they were!  So roomy and elegant that I wouldnt mind that minivan at all!
