Bored? Help me think of a 1st birthday theme!

We want to have a 1st birthday party for D, but nothing TOO crazy/elaborate. I feel like I need a theme to help me plan though. I dont want to do anything that would be more fun later (like pirates...would be cute but so much more fun for a toddler/preschooler). Any ideas?

    We did a farm theme for my nephew's first birthday. It was really cute, and pretty easy/affordable to do.

    We're doing a "watch him grow" very hungry caterpillar theme.

    What about a little man party? Mustaches and bow ties before he can resist!

    This!  It can be very cute!  I was going to suggest farm animal themed, but like this better!

    We did dinosaurs, because I fell in love with some of the projects I found.  I also wanted more of a theme because we had older kids (3-8) coming, and it helped me thing of games and such. 

    Bubbles and balls was one my list, because he enjoyed both of those things.

    Sports

    You could do a favorite book theme (like VHC, like PP said)

    Sesame street is an easy one to do (though I'm not a huge fan of tv-related bday parties when the kid doesn't watch tv).

    We used owls for the first and fishes for the second (it was a pool party). That one was fun to do with the foods... goldfish, fish shaped sandwiches, watermelon cut like a fish, fish cookies, candy wishing, and Swedish fish.
    That sounds adorable!

    We're doing a foam finger/baseball theme I think for LO's first you know how the foam finger is a one?

    This is such a good idea! I'd love to see pics of how it turns out.

    We did a farm theme with a focus in cows. Easy and cute.

    I third this option! I think I'm going to use the Little Man theme! Or a blue puppy theme, since that is sort of his theme for everything else...

    Crud. Now I don't know which one I like more...I think the Little Man theme is a it extravagant compared to an animal theme. OP, does your DS have a nursery theme? Would that be possible to use?

    We were going to do dinosaurs or dragons, because E liked to growl [for fun] at that age.  We ended up picking dinosaurs since that was the better looking cake at the bakery.

     

    His 2nd birthday theme was puppies.  One of his first words was puppy.

    little man is having a jungle theme birthday party. most of the decorations i found at party city and then i already have alot of stuffed animals (it is also his nursery theme). Throw in some jungle labled food (Jungle Juice, trail mix) and call it a day.

    I also have no problem if he wants to do a jungle theme again once he gets older and decides for himself.
