Babies: 3 - 6 Months

First stretch of sleep used to be 5+ hours, now wakes after only 3?

DS goes to bed around 7:45 pm. Since he was one month old (he will be 4 mos. next Monday) he wouldn't get up for his first MOTN feeding until at least 1 am. Sometimes it would be 2:30 am or even  3:30 am. The past couple weeks it has gotten progressively earlier. Now we are stuck in a pattern where he is up at 10:30 pm for a feeding :/ how do I get him to go longer?

He usually passes out before he finishes his bedtime bottle, but that never mattered in the past. There were nights he would only eat an ounce before bed but not wake til 3am. Last night he had 7 oz around 6 pm and then drank another 3 oz at 7:30 pm but was up to eat at 10:45.

Any advice on how to get him to go longer again? TIA

  • I'm really glad that I am not the only one. I would like to hear some suggestions on this as well.

Is your LO fussy? Cause mine is big time. He's never been much of a fussy baby. He's drooling and chewing on everything as well.

no he's not fussy at all during the day. He goes to bed initially fine, then wakes after 3 hours. Last night after he ate, it took me an hour to get him to stay in the crib. We played wake and cry, then fall asleep when I pick him up about six times after eating.  Then he ate at 2:30 and went back to sleep fine. Then woke at 5:50 to besoothed. T that point I just brought him in bed with me  cause I was exhausted. He has been chewing on his hands for at least a month before he started this.....

hope things improve for you soon :)

  • Unfortunately, time is the only thing I think can help you. For the first few months they usually go back and forth with their sleep routines. I don't think DS had a "regular" schedule until he was 6 months old. DD is 3 months and she has had weeks where she sleeps all night and then will go back to waking.

Boo, I was afraid of that ;) I don't expect STTN, DD didn't do it every night until she was 8 mos. I would just like to go back to getting up twice for a quick feed and right back to bed ;)

  • My LO has shortened her first stretch of sleep lately too, used to be same as yours, has now started waking after only 2 1/2 or 3 hours.  I know sleep issues are really common around four months, so I just keep holding out for a good night!
