Babies: 0 - 3 Months

making baby food

I'm considering making my own baby food, but I don't know much about it yet.  Anyone do this or have information?

Re: making baby food

  • Won't start for awhile, but I hear that wholesomebabyfood.com is a good site.

  • I haven't yet I'm going to try though too.  I suggest to get a book.  There is one in particular that is really good but the name has slipped my brain sorry.
  • When I started making it, I went to wholesomebabyfood.com and read how to do it. They have a lot of tips and recipes! It is really easy to do and I have continued to do it for the past month or so!

  • I made some for the first time over the weekend. It was really easy. I made apples, pears, sweet potatoes, squash, carrots and green beans. I boiled each thing separately and then pureed, I used some of the cooking water to thin each of them out. Anything that has a peel needs to be peeled before you boil it and I just snapped the ends off of the green beans.

I froze the purees in ice cube trays then transferred them to freezer bags the next day. Let me know if you have any questions.

  • so easy! we got a Beaba Babycook which steams and purees all in one unit. there are lots of great sites/cookbooks for recipes but the main point is to keep it simple.
  • I plan to. I got a book "top 100 baby purees" and a baby food processor and mill (but you can use any food processor). One thing I know- it's cheaper and better for the baby- though jar food isn't bad by any means. I know you can make a lot and then freeze it to use later. Maybe google it and see what you come up with. Good luck whatever you decide. :)
