***Warning, ticker is of my daughter who passed 28 hours after being born***
When I was pregnant, I used to come to this board, my SN then was Cincy/Toronto. It was my old name from The Knot and no longer applies to my life, but I never knew what to change it to. Since my daughter passed, after a perfectly normal pregnancy, due to her placenta abrupting at 4cm after he being 10 days late, I found out my new name.
Lillian should be 5 mths old in a few days, instead, I go and see her at the cemetary. Her Father and I are starting a non-profit in her memory. It is our hope to be able to provide financial assistance related to funeral costs due to an infant loss. I must stress that we are not operational yet, we have already had families sent our way that we cannot help.
This is how you can help. There is a community walk/run held in West Chester on March 9th. It is the annual Shamrock Shuffle and it is a charity race. ALL registration fees and donations go to charity and are completly tax deductible. We have set-up a charity team called 'Lillian's Leprechauns'. This is a family friendly race. Strollers and dogs are welcome and there is even a seperate race for the little ones (Leprecahun Lap) that starts at 10:30 after the adults are finished. If you would like to help, but already have commitments that day, you can register as a "Sleep In' participant and you still count towards our team numbers. Team numbers are very important. For every 25 members we have, we receive not only a portion of your registration fee, but also a $250 grant. Once we reach 100 participants, we recieve a $250 grant for every person after 100! This is HUGE.
The back-story on our organization
After buying everything for Lillian this past summer in preperation for her arrival, we didn't have a savings. That was on the plan to build up, as I'm sure it is for many of you. When I came home from the hospital with not only an empty womb, but also empty arms, I wasn't thinking about what my hospital stay just cost us, let alone what the funeral was going to cost. We sat down with the funeral director and he showed us the standard baby casket. It is a white plastic casket. Plain, nothing special about it, except what it was about to hold. My husband asked him if he had anything else, something a little more feminane. We were told they did, but they were far moer costly. You see the plain what is around $300. My husband turned to me and with tears streaming down his face said to me, "We are never going to be able to buy her a prom dress, help with college, a car, or her wedding. This is the last thing I'm going to be able to buy my little girl and I want it to be just as beautiful as she is." All I could do is simply nod. He picked out a Lavender casket, with brushed nickel accents and Lillac lining. It was $1008 dollars and we didn't even blink an eye. We just finished paying off her funeral last week. We don't EVER want a family to have to settle for the last thing they will ever purchase for their child just because they cannot afford something that their child deserves. This is why we have chosen this to be the focal point of our organization.

I should have been one of you, a member of this community. A regular mom that worries about the sniffles, breast milk production, tummy time, what color her poop is. Instead I am a member of the BLC, the Baby Loss Community. A mom who decorates her daughter's grave for the seasons and holidays, who dreads every 27th/28th of the month because those are what we refer to as her "Angelversary". A mom whose come-back race that she was to run while trying to figure out how those mom's with strollers do it, has no turned into a race in her daughter's memory.
I am MORE than happy to answer any questions you may have about the race and our team.
Will you please join me in my efforts to help other unfortunate parents like myself?
I will run, while she soars.
Niki - Lillian's Mom
Please feel free to look at my profile and see pictures of my daughter. She truly was beautiful.
