Natural Birth

MP question

At my appointment last week I was at a 3 and 70% effaced, does this mean I've lost my plug already? I never noticed losing with DS1 so I have no idea what it would even be like. (I only made it to a 2 with DS before we went to an unplanned c-section for breech presentation...)

Re: MP question

  • Not necessarily.  You'd notice it.  It looks very much like how it is named.  Not everyone loses it before labor starts, and it can regenerate, so losing it doesn't necessarily mean labor is eminent either.

  • Ditto, what she said. Big Smile
  • That sounds similar to what I was at 39 weeks 1 day.  I was also wondering if I had lost my mucous plug.  When I went into labor I lost it.  There is no mistaking a mucous plug. It is the grossest, weirdest, mucousy thing you will ever see.
  • Never saw it with either of my kiddos.

Unfortunately, I've had the displeasure of seeing other peoples', as they insist on bringing them to the hospital in Ziploc bags, sure that it means the baby is imminently delivering...haha.

  • I was 3cms and 80 percent at my appt Wednesday and lost it over the next few days with blood. It was unmistakable. On Saturday, I was 5cms and fully effaced. Still having lots of snotty discharge, but no labor yet. I don't remember losing it with my first two.

  • Some women lose it in pieces, so it can go unnoticed.  I don't remember seeing anything with DD.  With DS I had a mucus type discharge that came and went for a few days (about a week before I had him).  Again, not even sure if that was it.
  • I was never really aware of losing my plug with either of my pregnancies.
