Babies: 3 - 6 Months

nap hell

My lo will not takw naps. I cant take it any more. She is miserable and equally miserable to be around come 12 in the afternoon. I have read multiple books and nothing is working. Thank god we dont have a peoblem with bed time. My mother watches her during the week and told me if it doesnr change soon she will no longer be able to watch her. This is not good as I cant afford daycare at all. I need help!!! I have tried everything. It is to the point I dont want to come home from work anymore because of the crankiness.

Re: nap hell

  • Is your mother missing her sleep cues? What time does she wake up and go to bed?

  • Have you tried the same thing for several days? Sometimes it takes awhile for a routine to set in. Did you try multiple locations? If the nap deprivation is that bad maybe getting LO to sleep anywhere is a good first step.
Dd1 didn't take more than a few catnaps each day and was cranky and fussy constantly no matter what I tried so I know how you feel. Finally around 4 months she started sleeping for 45 minutes in her carseat twice a day. I was so desperate I went with it until I could get get into a better place and longer nap.

  • Will she nap in her stroller or in the carseat? can your mom take her out for a walk? The fresh air always knocks my LO out right away. Or will your mom babywear? maybe she'll fall asleep in an ergo or bjorn or something. Or do you have a swing that she'll sleep in?

Maybe try recreating your bedtime routine for naptime?

  • These are all good suggestions. I second the baby wearing. It took me 4 different types of carriers to find something she would tolerate. Good luck. Naps are hard here too.

  • Just want to let you know you're not alone.  I'm SAHM and I understand what your mom's going through.  My DS used to nap great, and bam all of a sudden nothing works anymore.  He's miserable all day.  The only way I can get him to nap is take him for a walk in the stroller (but it still takes 20 mins of walking to get him to fall asleep).  I also use the Ergo but the other day it took an hour of walking before he finally fell asleep.  Needless to say, I'm getting lots of exercise done.
