We try not to. The kids really like to wear our shoes around like dress up. I think it's nasty but oh well... they're quiet. We do tell them that they take their shoes off as soon as they walk in the door. DD is horrible with it but DS sits right down to do it.
Once they can understand we will really enforce it. I HATE wearing shoes in the house, but I know lots of people who do. In fact my dad, brother and uncle are all very mad about our "rule" and refuse to take their shoes off in the house. My kids crawl on the floors and DS has been known to lick them. Why wouldn't you take them off???
Hell no. We have a shoe basket in the foyer to keep the shoes we wear often. MH is bad about taking his off but I really don't even let guests wear shoes unless we're having a party.
ETA I know people who aren't sticklers about guests taking them off but I don't know anyone who wears shoes in their own house.
We wear slippers in our home but not shoes. When we actually do leave the house, Nora is so entertained by the sound of the shoes on her feet. She will just stomp around on a hard surface with enjoyment, because she's so used to bare feet or socks on carpet.

we try to take our shoes off inside, but if I have to run inside quickly for something I leave them on. Sometimes I have to wear them, especially if I have to stand for a long period of time, I have issues with my arches and if I stand barefoot for long periods of time I can barely walk later that day. We don't enforce the rule for guests, except in winter because one of my biggest pet peeves is stepping in snow or water left behind by snow in my stocking feet. *MH is notorious for walking through the house in his snowy work boots, which thoroughly pisses me off. I think he does it on purpose*
I am really surprised at how many people wear shoes in the house. Why would you? Wouldn't it make your floors dirty all the time? I get so pissed if dh runs in the grab something without taking them off, since it tracks in dust and marks up the floor.
And besides, isn't it uncomfortable? If you wore heeled shoes or boots one day, would you wear your heels around the house?
I agree with all of this! I think it would make your floors dirty and curling up in the couch with shoes on sounds so uncomfortable! I guess the weather here makes it hard to imagine wearing snow covered boots inside!
We don't have any rules and often walk around in the house with shoes on. If it was snowy or muddy outside I would definitely make a point to take my shoes off. We don't have any rules for our guests, but usually they do if their shoes are dirty.
No shoes in the house, we have light colored carpet. I do not ask guests to remove, but most do when they see our shoes on the front porch(it is enclosed).
I take my shoes off at the door. We don't walk around in our shoes, but DH is bad to walk around a little while before taking his shoes off, and it drives me crazy. I'm a stickler when it comes to my floors being clean. I sweep every day and if I don't, I feel like I'm going to lose my mind. I may be a tad OCD. Anyway, my parents don't. They walk around with their shoes on. My mom has to because she has foot problems, I don't ask my guests to remove their shoes even though it bothers me. I always take my shoes off when entering a house.

Same here. Except for the enclosed porch. : It is also way too uncomfortable to wear shoes inside.
Re: Stupid question/poll
really? I had no idea. All of my family and friends don't wear shoes indoors unless they are having a party or something. Interesting.

No rule about it here. We wear shoes inside, and take them off for comfort as needed.
I wouldn't ask guests to take their shoes off if we did have a rule, but I don't mind being asked to take mine off. Not a big deal either way to me.
Our weather is pretty mild, so snowy boots are not a concern.
I had no clue it was a hot topic.
I grew up in the south, and we didn't wear shoes unless we absolutely had to, hahah. So we never wore shoes inside.

This. I can't wait to get home and put my yummy l.l. bean slippers on
We do house shoes, though.

We don't have rules for guests, but we don't wear shoes in our home.
And I always ask "shoes on or off?" when I'm visiting someone else's home.

Nope, they come off as soon as we come in the house. It tracks in a ton of germs/dirt etc...
but I have like 5 pairs of slippers and they're at the door so i can slip them on as soon as i walk inside.
However if we have guests over for a night i wouldn't ask them to take off their shoes.
