Re: Gerber soothe for reflux?

  • Ours are on Gerber Soothe. They have reflux and my son was really colicky. It eventually helped for colic, but we didn't see much improvement for reflux. We just started Oatmeal once a day and have seen that to be helpful.

  • G was super colicky and had awful reflux.  Switched to Enfamil AR and within 24 hours, the throwing up was less than 1/2, and now, a month later, it may be 10% of what she was doing at 3 months.

  • We use Gerber Soothe whenever we use formula (which is about or a little less than half the time, the other half is breast milk). I don't think it helps with reflux, because DS spits up way more than he does with breast milk. DS was never diagnosed with reflux, but I think the Soothe doesn't sit as well in his stomach as the other formulas we tried.

Gerber Soothe is specifically for excessive crying and colic. It doesn't say anything about reflux on the can.

I would talk to your doctor to see what s/he says about it.

  • colic is a secondary condition. Most babies are colic because of GI issues. My daughter has severe reflux GERD and have given her soothe. She is obviously partial to breast milk but she will take soothe. I would talk to ur ped about formulas. Each case is different. I have my daughter on Pepcid twice a day. I keep her upright for at least 30 mins after feedings and burp her as much as I can. The most she had ever slept was 30 min naps and hour intervals at night. She is now 5 mths. U just need to tough it out until they start solids and that will hopefully help. Rice cereals in bottles are binding and can create more gas fussiness so that's no good either. I guess works for some. Soothe has worked tho when I need a break from pumping etc.
  • Yes!

I searched high and low to find it in the beginning.  I usually order it on Amazon now, but be careful b/c sometimes it is out of stock and takes awhile to arrive.  I definitely think it helped him.  I use about 2-3 drops per bottle of expressed BM.

In case you didn't know, it is the same probiotic product previously sold under the name Bio Gaia.  They were studied in a paper in Pediatrics 2007 and seemed to be very effective.

Oops.  I just realized you are speaking of the formula.  I have been using the drops.  I believe they both contain the BioGaia probiotics.

  • My girls tried it and hated it. By day 3 they had diarrhea and refused to eat it. We switched to Similac for spit up and it was better, but we are happiest with Similac Sensitive. That is what they eat now.

  • We use Gerber Soothe drops (probiotics) and they've made a world of difference. No clue on the formula.

  • We use Similac sensitive. Never tried Gerber but we did try the purple Enfamil and poor DS had the nastiest poos.
