First Off, January 2012 Moms-Thank you for everything. With everything and anything we have been through you have been there for me and been my venting space. Thank you so so much!
Today was a really rough day for Ellie. It has been a week in the hospital . It has been a long week. Lots of tears and lots of things to take in. It has been pretty rough.Today was a really rough day for Ellie. Ellie is still throwing up and has a fever. When we checked at 6pm and it was 103.6. She is also still spilling ketones at a high rate. This is not good as it means it is wearing down her muscles since the ketones break down the muscles when insulin doesn't work. So she is pretty weak right now. Her blood sugar has been horrible all day long as well. Gets very high then gets super duper low. Around noon she was 472. Then at 1 she was 66. Crazy how it can jump that much in such a short amount of time. Today we weighed her to see what that was and she has lost almost 3 pounds since last Saturday. She is teeny tiny to begin with so she needs to start gaining again. We are meeting with a high end specialist tomorrow to she what they think so I will let you know. Thanks again for everything!Sammi
Hello All!
Thank you so much for the support. Today was rough but we finally have some answers after a week of this. The specialist was amazing and it meant the world to us that they flew here to meet with us and to help our little girl. Ellie's pancreas is still producing insulin but very sporadically. So there is nothing we can do about that at the moment. The fever and throwing up and due to too much hydration. I know. We have always been told you can never have too much water well, you can. She is now on an IV drip so it is more regulated. The insulin wasn't working as best as it could because of this. Her ketones are slowly slowly going down and her blood sugar is becoming more regulated. Her body started not responding the insulin we had been giving her so we changed to a different one and stronger one and finally she is getting better.
So the goal for right now is to lower the fever, stop the throwing up, have her body stop making ketones, get her blood sugar regulated and go home!
Thanks again for everything! I couldn't have been this strong without you!
Sammi
