DS has spit up a lot tonight. One of large volume in the middle of eating (I assume since he wouldn't burp before that, then that could have caused it). Also could him bearing down hard to poop also cause spitting up? Is it okay to continue feeding him after he gets a break? Sometimes I wonder if the spit up means that he's done eating and overfull. Thoughts?

I don't have any answers for you, but have been wondering if DD's recent spit ups have been due to eating too much. So, I'm interested in others' comments on the subject!
Mama to 5 angel babies, 1 rainbow baby, and 2 more angel babies.
A large volume of spit up could very well be from having an air bubble because he didn't burp before. I've never had DD spit up while pooping but I would think it could very well be possible too.
If it's just an isolated incident, it sounds like he had too much air in him that wouldn't come up before feeding. Overeating is also a possiblity. DS has reflux, & I constantly have to burp him. If DS spits up in the beginning or middle of the feeding, I usually give him a couple of minutes, & pay attention to his cues. If it's toward the end of the feeding, I normally end the feeding. HTH!

DS always spits up when he is trying to poop during a feeding. He also spits up if he continues to feed without a burp. I try not to let that happen, but sometimes during a night feed I think I am half asleep and not paying attention.

I had a spitter. Everything made him spit up. Often I could find no cause. He lived in a bib until about 10m.
How often are you burping your LO? I burped him about every ounce at first, or every 5 minutes, if BFing. If he wouldn't burp, I'd try again after he drank a bit more. I also burped him thoroughly after eating and often continued bouncing him and trying to burp him more after that. He had colic, so we had major gas issues, hence the extra burping. On bad days, I'd bounce him most of the day and night. He would sometimes spit up when pooping. The muscles are all connected, so I can see it making him spit up.
When he had an air bubble that wouldn't move while eating, he'd spit everything up. I had him do that once on the breast in the middle of the night. That was awesome.
If you think your LO is spitting up excessively, then you can always call your doctor's nurse line for advice. It's always helpful to me to lay everything out for them and hear what they think.

If Harrison spits up a truckload and will still take the boob, I keep feeding him!
ETA: The mega spit ups were pretty frequent with him the first month or so, he is much better at keeping it down now. Their little bodies are just getting used to it all.

Thanks, ladies. Sorry that was a post and run. We burp every ounce, but if he didn't burp, I'll try after half an ounce. He seems to get the most massive spit ups when he's eating with DH and I'm starting to think it's the way he holds him. But I know he would probably get annoyed if I suggested doing it differently as would I if the tables were turned. He doesn't have the big ones often, maybe once a day, so it's not to excessive. I'm watching to make sure he doesn't cry with spitting up bc I've heard that could indicate acid reflux.
ETA: LOL I accidentally put *** instead of spit. I was.like, why is TB censoring me?!

DS will spit up if I have him sit up after eating. The squishy of his belly causes milk to come out like clockwork. But if I let him lay down for 20 or so minutes after eating, then no spit up. So, using belly muscles to poop could cause it.

First, he had an air bubble and needed burped.
Second, he drank too fast and couldn't keep up so he choked and it came up. We force him to take breaks now. Changing the nipple works too.
Third, he's over eating and there's just no more room. Piggy.
