ovulation surprise

i have been tracking my ovulation on an app for the past 5/6 months, and just recently went to the doctors for an ultrasound ( for something else) and found out that i was ovulating THEN. i thought i was ovulating earlier this month, the docs. apt. was on the 20th and the app says i am do for AF on the 25th. if i had sex on the 19 and 20th...and if i were to have conceived..would i still get a regular period since its only a week apart?

Glad i found out my app was wrong!!I would have been trying forever..i feel extremely hopeful!!

Re: ovulation surprise

  • If you conceived no to the period.
Also, phone apps for ovulation are not accurate and are useless unless its fertility friend and you temp. You need to track your BBT to know if and when you O.

  • You will typically get you period 14 days give or take after you ovulate, so if you did not conceive, you wont get your period until about 2 weeks after you doctor appt.

Not all of the phone apps are useless, it depends on what they track. I use Ovuline, and they track basal body temp, CM, physical symptoms, emotional symptoms, and intercourse as well as the usual period start and duration.
  • delurking Are you temping? That would be a good indicator of when you ovulate... If your luteal phase is too short, you may have trouble conceiving. It generally takes the egg 7 days or so to implant, so if you start shedding your lining, or getting your period, 5 days after you ovulate, the fertilized egg won't have a chance to implant. A couple of friends had luteal phase defect and were able to correct the issue easily with medication. Just food for thought if you do get your period in 5 days, so you know what might be the cause. Hopefully your app was off and your timing was perfect. Good luck!

I think she meant if you plug in period start date if 2/1 it says O on 2/14 those types of apps are useless.

Yeah, those apps are definitely useless! OP, I posted a few days ago about OPKs, which I'm starting to use this cycle. You may want to look into them as well.
  • i think i will try the OPKs if i dont get any good news in a couple days....reviews and success rate with them???
