So DH and I are thinking about joining the 21st century and getting iphones, we currently have basic cellphones. How much data does one need? Is 4gb enough shared between the two of us? TIA!
Depends how much you will use it and how often you have access to Wifi. 4 gb would be tight for us, but I use my phone a lot, and I don't want to worry about going over.
Because of the number of apps we both run and how integrated our phones are into our daily lives we went with an unlimited plan to be safe. 4g would not work for us but my husband listens to a lot of podcasts and I track a lot of family stuff on my phone.
I'm on WiFi a lot, so I find myself only using about 1-2Gb of data over the network - and I'm a heavy user among my friends. I have WiFi at home and at work though, so that might be a factor for my usage being lower than most.

My husband and I share 500MB between us and it's usually enough. I'd consider myself a moderate user. We have wifi at home. I mainly use the data plan for checking e-mail, facebook, google docs, and getting texts when out. I also use the maps app for directions pretty frequently. You are able to track how much you're using as the month goes on, so you can see if you need to cut back on your surfing. I would think 4GB would be enough unless you are planning to watch a lot of videos or read a lot of websites with pictures when not on wifi. I try to make sure I'm using wifi whenever possible to conserve my data.
When I went from my Samsung "smart phone" to my iPhone I was only using under 2gb sooooo the 4 with 8gb was plenty for me! I couldn't justify spending the extra money when I didn't care to use Suri or the extra gb! Good luck :-)
