Pregnant after a Loss

Goji Berries? HELP - freaking out!

Help!  Ladies, I was at the market last night and bought some goji berries to throw in my morning yogurt.  i did that, and then continued to munch on them all day.  lo and behold, i google goji berry and it tells me that they can cause miscarriage... i am freaking out!  i probably ate about 5 oz. Has anyone done this?  I am only 4w6d.

  • You will be ok. There's no proven link that they are dangerous, it's just not known whether they are safe in large quantities. Just stop eating them, and if you feel nervous still, give your doctor a ring. Chances are if they haven't already made you sick, nothing will happen.

  • First off, take a deep breath. Also, step away from the computer/Google.  I understand why you're freaking out a bit, but there are many things that "could" cause a miscarriage (such as the tea I obliviously drank my entire first  trimester), but that plenty of women consume and go on to have perfectly health and boring pregnancies.

As Grace said, just stop eating them and if you need reassurance (which is perfectly ok) call your OB.

  • Thanks ladies- I called my OB and they said the same thing: stop eating them now... don't eat anymore... and be careful.  They said no matter what happens since I am only 4w6d, I am still in the waiting game anyway, so nothing changes.  I am still nervous, and freaking out.  There are so many things I do that I thought were good for me, but apparently are bad for my baby.
  • I had the same experience w/ pomegranate seeds.  I ate a ton of them and then read about connections to awful things.  I think Dr. Google tends to overstate things, but if you feel strange at all or even just too anxious, call your OB for a sanity check.  Big (((HUGS)))

  • Lavril while I was learning about the horrors of goji berries, I saw that pomegranates, pineapple and papaya are no good. I'm sure you're right about doctor google overstating things. Ugh, I'm just so scared I'm going to do something to screw this up. Thank you for your support.

Ok, now I'm freaking out.  I love pineapple, and I just cut one up this afternoon.  Do you know what it is about them that is "bad"?

  • I only read this in one place, so don't freak out. I just read that something about the bromelain is not good in excessive quantities. I spoke with my best friend, who is a naturopath and has a 7 month old, and after my hysterical fit of tears, she got me to listen and she assured me that you would have to eat massive quantities of goji berry, pineapple, pomegranate, etc to cause harm. I'm so sorry I got you upset. Don't worry we will both be fine. Hh 9 months. Hugs

Yep I read that about pineapple midhawaii trip where I was eating tons of it! After many dr google freak outs I've learned to quit googling these things! It only makes me insane. I completely get your fear of doing something to mess it up though. Pgal is so tough!
