I like playing board games, soccer, and baseball with them but HATE playing with the little figure guys from star wars and super heroes. I don't like playing make believe stuff at all really, it is so boring.
I'm the same. I don't mind doing puzzles, building blocks, playing outdoor sports games, etc, but I get sick of playing with Matchbox cars all.the.time.
I despise playing pretend. If I have to make a stuffed animal talk, I'm not into it at all. I'll play board games and be joke around with them, though.
Not really. I like playing chase, playing outside, etc. But I don't want to play trains or do the same puzzle for the thousandth time a day. I do it, but I really don't enjoy it. Fortunately he is often happy to play with us inthe same room, but not actively engaged, so we play puzzle a few times then I sit on the couch in the play rool and knit while he shows me things.
Ugh, I'm so jealous. Mine will not let me sit down and do something besides playing with him. I only get to come on my computer while he's eating or napping during the day. I can't wait until it warms up so we can spend more time outside.
Sometimes I like playing with him. But he wants to read the same book over and over and over and over. I don't like that.
Oh.. so this never improves you say? So I'm going to be doomed to read Llama Llama Red Flucking Pajama for the rest of my life?
He's only like 5 months older than yours, so I don't know. But the book he wants to read over and over again is one of those huge picture books with 100 words in it. No plot. And he calls every transportation vehicle in it a truck, even though I correct him everytime. Ahhhhhhh.

We play this game too except its Thomas the train books

Can I watch your kids for you?
I can't wait til DS is old enough to play with action figures! Although, to be fair, the "plots" toddlers often come up with are usually not very good at all...

You should see the lightsaber wars at our house when dh gets home from work!

LD, you can come play with DS. And play with his with dinosaurs. They talk to each other about their features and what they eat for up to an hour. It should be cute. But it is a battle not to run away screaming.
"I a brachiasaurus. I have a long neck. I eat plants! Do you have plates?"
"Yes. I'm a stegosaurus. My plates keep me safe from carnivores."
"You eat meat?"
"No, I eat plants."
"Oh, I eat plants! I a brachiasaurus. I have a long neck."
Over and over and over
DS is just getting to learn how to pretend and it's great, sometimes. Sometimes I run out of things to say about the delicious xyz he made in his kitchen or why abc train is sad.
I really disliked playing pretend with my DD when she was small. Her expectation was basically that I would do all the "heavy lifting" of the pretend. It was almost like she was just sitting back, watching me put on a show. She wasn't actually pretending. She was just using me for entertainment.
When my son asks me to "play pretend" with him, my role is basically to interject an occasional "oh, yes!" or "sounds great!" to his made up schemes. Many is the hour we've sat in rush hour traffic with him chattering away in the back seat "playing pretend" with me.
I always far prefer board games or outdoor games to pretend play, though.

i love when DD wants to color. i love coloring. lol
LOL I don't like it because he stifles my creativity. He won't let me have my own page so he keeps scribbling where I'm coloring. He also insists I color what HE wants, with the color he hands me. Boo.
And I want to color nice and on the paper. He wants to smoosh the markers and color on the floor, wall, table. Ugh.

It is. Just not adorable enough to tide me through an hour a day without feeling bored.
We play together a lot and I love it, but the repetition of some of his pretend games kills me right now.

I hear ya. I can only play " Cinderella goes to the grocery store" before I have to cut it short and tell her mommy has some stuff she needs to do.
I like reading books, doing crafts and playing the piano with them, but all the other stuff, not really. I'm just not good at it....I'm not very creative when it comes to play. Most of the time, they don't even want me to play with them anyway. They like playing by themselves or with each other. Sometimes when I try, they tell me to stop because I'm doing it wrong! Luckily, DH is really great at all this pretend play and roughhousing stuff, so I let him do that. I handle the snuggles and their behind the scenes stuff (scheduling playdates, sitters, preparing their lunches, remember which days DS is off from school, etc.) I'm fine with it...the kids don't love me any less for it. They just know not to come to me if they want to be thrown 3 feet in the air!

DD it too young to really play anything with me except with a ball or blocks. I don't mind that.
As for guilt around hating to play pretend...I thought it was better to let them play pretend by themselves or just with peers.
You haven't figured out how to hide books yet. Trust me, once he gets into dinosaurs you will BEG to read llama llama llama.
