Parenting after a Loss

xp: fights bottles

I posted this on O12 also.

In the last couple weeks, Alice has been fighting her bottles. We haven't changed anything. Same bottles, same nipples, same amount of the same formula. She cries, so I take it out of her mouth. Then she loses her mind until I put it back in. She'll suck a few times, then repeat the process. Usually she does this for the first 3 or so ounces. She's ok for the middle of the bottle, until the last few sucks. then she starts freaking out again. When she cries, she will straighten her legs and monkey toe my leg fat. (I swear she pinches harder with her toes than she does with her fingers!)

I have changed the way I hold her, changed her position. Usually she settles down mostly when I hold her in my lap, her back to my chest, sitting pretty much straight up. She still fusses, just not as hard.

So, now that you've read my novel, what do you think? Should I move her up to a size 3 nipple? She'll be 5m on Tuesday. I don't think it's reflux. Once she finishes her bottle, she burps, and she's fine. Other than fighting naps (which is normal for this stage from what I understand) she doesn't seem to be bothered by anything else.

  • I would try the next size nipple and see if it helps. It could also be developmental. My boys tend to lose interest in the bottle right before a developmental leap. I know it's so frustrating though!

This. I would try the size up (you'll need it eventually) and see. Don't worry you'll get your bottle/snuggle time back.

My first thought was nipple size. I'd try to up it. Good luck.

  • I was also told that sucking can sometimes bother them if they are teething. Just an additional thought.

  • I know she's young but could it be teething?  This is what DS did when he was teething...he'd get kind of pissy during the bottle.  I think it was hurting him to suck.  But I do also agree with trying the next nipple size. I'd bet it's one of those two things.

She is definitely teething.  that stupid tooth needs to hurry up.  Mommy's head (and ears) hurt from the crying, and Punkface smells like slobber all the time. LOL
