I feel like I'm not doing enough to prep for DS2, due in May. I guess it's partly because I obsessed over every little thing the first time around, and this time I'm just too busy and tired to think much about it. Can you guys help? Here's what I've done so far:
Put together a registry for work since the girls want to throw a baby shower (I started this job when DS1 was 8 months old). I didn't expect any showers with DS2 so I feel really lucky.
We're working on getting DS1's big boy room set up. It'll hopefully be done by early March so that he'll have two months to get used to it before DS2 arrives and rocks his world. We have everything at this point but the twin mattress. The nursery's basically ready to go aside from a deep clean, washing clothes, and pulling a few items out of storage.
I've put DS2 on the daycare waiting list, put DS1 on the waiting list for a montessori school, and started the long and arduous hunt for a sitter to replace our current wonderful/fantastic/irreplaceable sitter, who will be leaving us in August.
We've got our maternity leave budget in place (still adjusting to it, though) and also started planning to purchase a car in the fall since there's a good chance we're going to have more kids.
We've been talking to DS1 about his brother, who is currently in Mommy's tummy, etc., but haven't been pushing it.
Looking at that list, I guess I've made some decent progress. But it feels like I haven't done enough. Oh, just remembered that I need to get my maternity leave coverage plan roughed out for work. I also need to do our taxes and have been wanting to get life insurance and legal stuff like wills worked out as well.
What else am I missing? Thank you!
Re: Feels like I'm not doing enough to prep for #2
I honestly didn't do much to prep for #2. I got DD's big girl room ready, but she didn't even move in until after DS arrived. I got all the baby clothes washed and sorted by gender and size. And I got all the baby gear back out and setup.
Only thing you're missing that I can think of is buy a special present for your older child to give them when baby arrives. And make any arrangements necessary for who will be watching your older child while you are in the hospital. (For me that meant making notes on DD's schedule, foods she could eat, etc. for my MIL, and also packing her bag of clothes and stuff for 2days.)
Also if you are planning to do a baby book, I would purchase it now and start filling in details about your pregnancy.
Thanks, ladies. I appreciate it.
We made serious progress this wkd on DS1's room as well as on general decluttering, so I'm feeling a lot better about our situation at home. Now I just need to get the rest of my life in order.
