Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Rolling

My DD is 7 weeks old, and last week she had rolled over. Being a STM I figured it was probably an accident, possibly something made her jump and she ended up on her back, because DD1 didn't roll at all until at least 3 months. But, all week, during tummy time, she has been a rolling son of a gun. She isn't on the ground for more than a minute, and she is on her back, smiling blissfully. Today alone I counted 12 times. I am pretty impressed with her motor skills, but I am also kind of hoping it isn't a sign that I'll have two very mobile children, as DD1 is a climbing, jumping, running, hyper active child. I am not sure I could handle keeping up with 2 of those haha.

Re: Rolling

  • That's awesome! Don't worry about the active thing though. Being ahead at one thing doesn't mean they will be at everything. DS pulled up and crawled really really early. I was sure he would walk early as well. But he was so darn good at crawling that he felt no need to walk until he was over 13 months. Not late by any means, but not early like we expected. Then there are kids who never crawl and end up walking at 10 months. Congrats to your DD. :)

  • my daughter did that.  She was doing push ups and crap at 5 weeks.  Rolling around at 6. Walking at 9 months. Now at 3 she thinks she runs the house..  DS1 rolled over on day 2 but hasn't done it since. At 7 weeks he was smiling and the daycare swears she heard him giggle.  DS2 has been picking head up since day 1.  I have accepted that I am screwed...

  • My first DS rolled over as a newborn. My MIL told me it was common in the itty bitties because they don't weigh much and can throw themselves. He quit after a few weeks when he gained some weight. (Oh yeah, MIL pediatric nurse) :)

  • Our lo rolled over from stomach to back at 5 weeks (this week) we also thought it was a fluke but he did it a few times. He's been rolling from his back on to each side since he came home from the hospital and picking up his head and neck since week one. Doc says he is strong and has good muscle tone. Not sure if it means he'll be advanced but I guess we will see!

Our pedi said the same thing.  She said most likely it will stop when DS gets bigger and then he will start again in a few months, but this time it will be purposeful.
