Ovarian Cyst?

I've finally gotten done with all the initial testing under the direction of my OBGYN. I've got an appointment with her in 2 weeks to go over everything and to talk about what direction to go in. I assume she'll refer me to an RE and create a plan of action. My AMH came back low, which I know may not mean anything by itself since all other levels were normal. HSG was normal. The nurse called this afternoon and said the sonogram showed a cyst on one of my ovaries. Since I hate waiting I've been hypogoogling all afternoon to see what it can mean. I'm assuming they might recommend laparoscopy to deal with the cyst.

No real point to this post since I know the cyst could be caused by any number of things. I am just so bad at waiting. For those who've had a laparoscopy, how was it? How was the recovery. Thanks!

Re: Ovarian Cyst?

  • I've struggled with cysts off and on for over a year (that I know of) but have not had to have surgery for them.  From what I understand they will only do surgery to remove a cyst if absolutely necessary.  If not, they will likely recommend going on the BCP to try and help the cyst(s) shrink.

That said, I have had 2 laps...one last April (dx stage 3 endo) then went on 3 rounds of lupron to help shrink the scar tissue before having a 2nd in Aug to remove all the damaged tissue.  The lap isn't really too bad.  I think I took 3ish days to really get to feeling better, just stiff and sore.  You don't realize how much you use your stomach muscles to do things until you can't.  For me honestly the worst thing was the after effects of the anesthesia which had me feeling pretty rotton for about a day after the surgery.  All in all the procedure is quick and minimally invasive so you should be feeling close to 100% within a few days.

Good luck to you and hoping you get some answers soon!

  • I had a lap last week (those were posted under an old profile with a really old ticker).

It wasn't that bad, although the recovery was a little more drawn out than I expected.  They did it at six at night on Friday and I was home around midnight.  I needed help getting up and going up stairs due to the soreness.  On Saturday I was really sore as well.  I spent most of the day laying on the couch and sleeping.  By Sunday, I could get up and move around a lot easier.  I went to work for a couple hours on Monday, then six on Tuesday, and by Wednesday all I needed was Ibuprofen and I was back to normal.  Today I didn't take any medication at all.  My incisions are scabbed over and almost completely healed.

If you have a lap, just expect to rest for a while, but it's a breeze compared to a c-section.

    Good luck!

Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Married my best friend on 3/27/2009. Blessed with a baby boy via C-Section on 3/16/2010. Began TTC again in the fall of 2011. Diagnosed with Secondary Infertility. After 3 rounds of Clomid and all hormone tests returning normal, had an HSG in fall of 2012. This test came back inconclusive. Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy performed February 2013. No significant scarring or abnormalities were found. During the procedure, the RE and OBGYN pushed dye through my fallopian tubes as well. RE stated that he believes the dye removed debris and minor blockages from my tubes.
