Up after feeds

Does anyone hold LO upright for awhile after feeds? If so, for how long? I've been doing 15 minutes. The pediatrician said to do it after burping him when he was a couple days old. Do I still need to be doing this? I could ask the doctor again, but I was curious what you all do.

Re: Up after feeds

  • I've never really done this, but DS also spits up a lot, so I'm probably not the best person to ask.  Just trying putting your LO down and see what happens :) Besides you don't necessarily have to hold him, a bouncer or swing would serve the same purpose.

  • We do, because LO has reflux and I've noticed that he spits up a ton if he lays down after eating. We try to do 30 min after he eats (or keep him upright in a bouncer seat).

  • My little guy just started spitting up after feeds within the last week and our pedi recommended keeping him upright for 15-20 mins.  I'm sure it helps but I haven't noticed that big of a difference.

Also, our pedi shared that around 4 months is when LO's peak in spitting up.  Oh joy, something to prepare for....

  • I will occasionally. She has reflux and I found that the gas drops three times a day improves it a ton.

  • I do, but only because it helps manage her discomfort from her reflux.
